5 Bottle-Feeding Mistakes To Avoid

While bottle feeding your baby it is important to keep a check on the smallest details. There are some aspects of bottle feeding that every parent must guard from the very beginning.

Feeding Frequency

The main consideration for bottle feeding is the feeding frequency. According to the doctors, you must maintain a flexible feeding schedule for your baby. This means that you need to feed the baby whenever the baby is hungry. Babies and their hunger are different from adults so it is important to make sure that their requirements are met. The feeding schedule will be set in a couple of months and you will know the timings of baby feeds.

Not Keeping Bottles Clean

We all know for a fact that mothers are very particular and cautious about the cleanliness and hygiene of the baby. It is very important that you must sterilize all bottles before every bottle feed. Keep in mind, that before using the feeding bottle for the first time you must sterilize them and invest in a good sterilizer. Do not use harsh chemicals or detergents for cleaning them.

Feeding Position

Another important consideration is about the feeding positions. You must remember that don’t try to feed the baby while he is sleeping. Your baby will spill out the milk and it isn’t an ideal position for feeding. Also, the milk flow might lead in mid ear canal causing infection. Make sure that the baby’s head is always elevated so the baby can drink milk comfortably.

Not Burping The Baby After Feeding

Burping your baby after every feed is extremely important as it makes them feel comfortable and soothe them. If you do not burp the child, he will remain fussy and cranky due to the air swallowed during the feed. This condition is very important in case of bottle feeding as compared to breastfeeding. You can make your baby burp by putting him over your shoulder, on your lap by making them sit upright and also by making the baby lay with stomach down.

Mixing Formula Milk and Breast Milk

This is something that every parent must understand that mixing formula milk with breast milk is a big no. It is not recommended by the pediatricians as it causes digestion problems.  It is professionally advised to use only one milk during the feed.
